India and Japan strengthen ties to fend off China

The leaders of India and Japan have agreed to strengthen defence ties as they seek to counter Chinese influence in the region. Shinzo Abe, Japanese prime minister, was on a two-day visit to India, where he helped launch India’s first bullet-train project, which was made possible by a huge Japanese loan.
